Are you being spoken to in English and you don’t know what they’re saying? This summer, we might find ourselves in situations like these if we travel abroad.
Below, we provide you with a series of phrases to use in order to help you understand what they’re saying:
- I’m sorry, I didn’t understand what you were saying-Lo siento, no te he entendido bien lo que me estabas diciendo
- I’m sorry, I’m afraid I don’t understand-Lo siento, me temo que no te entiendo
- Could you please say it more slowly? -¿Me lo podrías decir más despacio lo que me estás diciendo?
- Come again –¿Otra vez?
- I beg your pardon– ¿Perdona?
- I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you. Could you tell me again? –Lo siento no te he escuchado ¿Me lo podrías repetir?
- What did you say? -¿Qué has dicho?
- I’m having trouble understanding what you’re saying. Could you use an easy vocabulary? –No logro entender lo que me dices, ¿Me lo puedes decir con un vocabulario más fácil?
When you start learning English, it’s normal not to understand things and ask for everything to be repeated. Sometimes, you constantly ask what they said in order to understand what they’re saying in English, especially if they speak with a strong accent, which can be challenging even for someone who already has an advanced level of English. Good luck!
